The Tabellout dam and its transfer tunnel
The aim of this project was to transfer an annual volume of 303 million m3 of water to supply drinking water to a population of around 2 million and to irrigate 36,000 ha of farmland. Following a number of geological problems, Razel-Bec proposed a mixed variant to complete the project, building a 21 km tunnel instead of the 14 km initially planned.
The Tabellout dam has the unique feature of being one of the few RCC dams with an arched profile to help withstand seismic stresses.
