The electricity interconnection across the Biscay Gulf

Connecting national grids and enabling renewable energies to circulate across Europe

Interconnexion France-Espagne énergies renouvelables

First fundamentally submarine interconnection between France and Spain

Razel-Bec (lead contractor), in a consortium with Fayat TP, Fayat Power, Serpollet, ETPM and Groupe Semi, has just been chosen to build the overland works for the following power link project: the electricity interconnection across the Biscay Gulf. The electricity interconnection between Gatika (Spain) and Cubnezais (France) will be the first fundamentally submarine interconnection between the two countries. This electricity network will help to achieve the Energy Union's objective of guaranteeing affordable, secure and sustainable energy compatible with growth and employment throughout the European Union.
400 LENGTH OF THE INTERCONNECTION

The interconnection consists of four cables, two per link. This submarine and underground direct current dual connection will be almost 400 km in length, running between the Cubnezais substation (near Bordeaux, France) and the Gatika substation (near Bilbao, Spain)

5 000 MW

This project will increase the exchange capacity from 2,800 to 5,000 MW,  improving the safety, stability and quality of electricity supply between the two countries and also with the rest of Europe.
